La Crosse police Monday announced that a convicted sex offender will be released today into a group home for sexual offenders. Samuel Townsend, 38, is set to reside at the Attic Correctional facility, 809 Rose St., according to police. Townsend will be released from prison, where he served a sentence for second-degree sexual assault of a child. According to court records, Townsend was convicted of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old female in July 2005. Police report Townsend, a registered sex offender, will be placed on electronic monitoring as part of his extended super-vision. And, he can have no unsupervised contact with minors, no contact with the victim, consume no alcohol or drugs, visit no bars or taverns and must have regular face-to-face contact with law enforcement.
