Update on Charges For Guardians of 5 Year Old Geontae Glass Dec 11, 2006 10:47 PM CST 5 year old Geontae Glass was buried Monday in Centre, Alabama. He's the child reported missing in an amber alert hoax in North Alabama last monday. Authorities say it was a cover-up to hide the fact that Geontae had been murdered. Initially police charged his mother, Shalinda Glass and her boyfriend, Kevin Towles with simple murder. Monday the stakes got higher when the DA Jimmy Harper upgraded the charges to capital murder, and he's seeking the death penalty for the pair. http://www.wsfa.com/Global/story.asp?S=5800422

Death penalty sought By George Jones The Reporter Published December 12, 2006 Geontae Glass’ mother has been charged with capital murder. Etowah County District Attorney Jimmie Harp, in a news conference Monday afternoon, said, “After reviewing the evidence in this case, it will be presented to a jury by our team of prosecutors. I am convinced Shalinda Glass played an important role in the death of her son and the subsequent cover-up of the crime. “It is going to take an Etowah County jury to convince me otherwise.” Police in Etowah County arrested Shalinda Glass last week after an alleged kidnapping hoax Dec. 4, in which she said her car — with 5-year-old son Geontae inside — was stolen from an Albertville convenience store. Police launched a search across the South, with an Amber Alert urging citizens to be on the lookout for the missing car. However, it is now believed the boy was dead all along and his body was in the trunk of the car before it was reported stolen. Harp is seeking the death penalty because, he said, he believes the evidence supports the charge. Glass was arrested early Dec. 5 at her Rainbow City apartment, along with her boyfriend, Kevin Towles. Towles was charged last week with capital murder. Glass was charged originally with hindering prosecution. The car was found in a Shady Grove garage owned by Towles early on the morning of Dec. 5. “Every child deserves the protection of the justice system, and I plan to make every effort to see that justice is carried out in this case,” Harp said in a statement from his office. http://www.sandmountainreporter.com/story.lasso?ewcd=95b50cc69a524b0a

Glass' Hindering Prosecution Charge Dropped Last Edited: Monday, 18 Dec 2006, 12:16 PM CST Created: Monday, 18 Dec 2006, 12:16 PM CST GADSDEN, Ala (WBRC-TV) --- An Etowah County woman charged in the death of her son appears in court Monday. Shalinda Glass was scheduled for a preliminary hearing on a charge of hindering prosecution. District Court Judge Wayne Owen dropped that charge because the hindering prosecution allegations are covered in her capital murder charge. Glass and her boyfriend, Kevin Towles, are charged with capital murder in the death of Geontae Glass. Investigators allege Geontae was beaten to death and that the two concocted a phony Amber alert to cover the murder up. http://www.myfoxal.com/myfox/pages/News/Detail?contentId=1807886&version=1&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.2.1
