Amber alert child found By Don Munsch Published: Thursday, January 15, 2009 3:12 PM CST Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office has called off an Amber Alert for the son of a Needville area woman who was reported missing Monday, but authorities are still looking for the mother. The boy, Elijah Ray Farris, who is six weeks old, was found safe early Thursday morning at a Houston Fire Department station. Sonia Diane Quintanilla, 30, the mother, remains at large, said Terriann Carlson, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office. The boy was dropped off by an unknown male at the HFD’s Fire Station No. 34, located in the 3100 block of Laura Koppe. Children Protective Services described the baby as “being filthy with a soiled diaper but in fair condition,” Carlson said. Sonia Quintanilla is still reported as missing, Carlson said. The sheriff’s office was notified of the recovery shortly before 6:30 a.m. Just after 6 p.m. Monday, deputies of the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 6300 block of Beard Road in Needville regarding a missing adult female and her 6-week-old son. Detectives said that at approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday, Quintanilla left in a blue 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier 4-door, bearing license plate Z84-CFV, in order to take her son to the doctor. Quintanilla did not return home or has been in contact with anyone since that morning, Carlson said. Quintanilla has a history of using drugs and leaving home for short periods of time, Carlson said. The family was extremely concerned for the infant’s safety, particularly because it did not appear that Quintanilla took food, clothing or diapers for the baby. Detectives said she might have been in the northeast area of Houston near Tidwell and U.S. 59. They have requested the assistance of the Houston Police Department and also notified Child Protective Services.
