Starbucks recalls China-made kids cups Thu Oct 11, 3:21 AM ET WASHINGTON (AFP) - Coffee shop chain Starbucks is recalling 250,000 made-in-China plastic children's cups that can break easily and endanger children, the company and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced. The Seattle, Washington company said it has received seven reports of the cups breaking, and in two of the reports children began to choke on a broken piece. But it added that no injuries had been reported. The recall includes four styles of plastic children's 10-ounce (300-millileter) cups: the red ladybug, green turtle, pink bunny and yellow chick cups. "If the cup is dropped, the colorful face on the cup can break off and leave small parts or sharp exposed edges that can pose a choking or laceration hazard to young children," CPSC said Wednesday in its recall announcement. Starbucks is offering refunds and a complimentary drink to those returning the cups, which it sold in its US shops between May 2006 and August 2007 for about six dollars each. It is the latest in a slew of US recalls of defective or dangerous products made in China, the largest exporter of manufactured goods to the United States.
