Team AdamTeam Adam is a group of retired police officers that works with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The team is named for Adam Walsh, the murdered son of NCMEC founder John Walsh, host of the television show America’s Most Wanted.
There are about 50 members of the team, and they travel around the country to places where police are investigating suspicious cases of missing children, providing advice, assistance and technological resources to aid in the cases, drawing on their years of experience specializing in such mysteries. Team members have provided help in more than 300 cases in 43 states since January 2003, according to the NCMEC’s Web site.
Team Adam
Missing Child Rapid Response System
Team Adam provides rapid, on-site assistance to law enforcement agencies and families in cases of missing, abducted, and exploited children. Its members are retired law-enforcement professionals with years of investigative experience at the federal, state, and local level.
Team Adam Consultants (TAC) rapidly deploy to sites where cases are unfolding, providing on-the-ground technical assistance and connecting local law enforcement with a national network of resources.
Team Adam’s unique access to NCMEC resources, coupled with their years of command post and multi-jurisdictional law enforcement experience, very often provides small- or medium-sized departments with the tools they need to handle complex, media-intensive cases.
Response to Katrina
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast, separating many families. Thirty TACs were deployed to the affected areas to help locate displaced children and reunite them with their families. As a result of NCMEC’s efforts, the last of the 5,192 children displaced by the storm was reunited with her family in Houston, TX in March 2006.
