We appreciate your interest in participating in the Texas Amber Alerts. We already have many of the systems in place that you discussed. I would urge you to contact the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which operates an approved secondary distribution system for many of the states across the nation, including Texas. Once NCMEC receives a notification of an Amber Alert from a law enforcement agency, it then redistributes the alert to organizations and others who have expressed an interest in participating in the system For more information on the NCMEC Secondary Distribution System, please contact Robert Hoever of NCMEC at rhoever@ncmec.org. Thanks again for your interest. Tela Mange, PIO

Our department views every missing child as important. The Amber Alert is an excellent tool for law enforcement agencies. However, the Texas AMBER Alert Network was designed to activate for cases meeting the state criteria. Please remember that while many cases usually do not meet out state criteria, we still continue to search for these missing children and provide assistance to local agencies. When we post a case on our website, we will always post to NCMEC as well--unless NCMEC already has the information. We will continue to make missing children our priority. I am however still concerned about the States Endangered Missing/Runaways. I feel NCMEC is a godsend for the families of missing persons and do an excellent job. But it should be the responsibility of each individual state to make these alerts to the public. The reason I say this is due to 6 of Texas’s children who were delayed in being posted. Kristy Vega Endangered Runaway October 3rd posted October 18th 15 days delayed Kimberly Santacruz Endangered Runaway October 13th posted October 18th 5 days delayed Samantha Gomez Endangered Runaway October 18th posted October 27th 9 days delayed Danielle Hernandez Endangered Missing/Pregnant October 6th posted November 2nd 27 days delayed William Allen Endangered Runaway October 5th posted November 2nd 28 days delayed. Can you see why we are concerned. The reason I know the dates posted is that we check NCMEC missing 5 times a day for updates, removed in our Endangered Forum and Endangered Missing Alerts. As a resident of Texas I strongly urge the Department make some type of change to Include these children. No matter if they are runaways, abducted, family abductions they are still gone. While I applaud Texas’s Amber Alert System, being one of the better ones in place, like all things it needs improvement. And better communication between departments can only help not hurt. Being a former Communications Officer here in Texas I can speak from personal experience on this. Thank you for your time and I will be looking forward to our next email. Sincerely, Removed www.fromwhisperstoroars.org
