GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- A South Carolina teenager charged in the sexual assault and killing of an 8-year-old girl has been ordered to get a mental evaluation.
WYFF-TV reported that prosecutors said Thursday they need results of the evaluation to help them argue the 14-year-old boy should be charged as an adult in the July death of Dymia Janae Woody.
The boy's lawyer argued against the exam, but the judge approved it.
The boy is charged with murder, kidnapping and criminal sexual conduct. If he is tried as an adult, he could face up to life in prison. If convicted as a juvenile, he could only be held until he turned 21. His name has not been released.
Deputies found the girl dead in a home in Piedmont several doors down from where she lived
