Verizon Wireless to help fight domestic violence/MassVerizon Wireless to help fight domestic violence
October was Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Time for all of us to pause and consider the plight of families whose lives have been scarred by violence. One in three women will be beaten, coerced into sex or otherwise abused in her lifetime. Nearly 9 million children will witness an act of violence in their homes this year.
Verizon Wireless urges anyone looking for information on the issue to dial #HOPE from any Verizon Wireless phone. Callers will be connected to the National Domestic Violence Hotline for professional and confidential help. To reach this toll-free hotline via landline
simply dial (800) 799-SAFE. (799-7233).
Concerned citizens can also make a difference by simply donating their no-longer-used wireless phones to Verizon Wireless' HopeLine® program. HopeLine accepts wireless phones and accessories from any carrier, which are then recycled or refurbished and sold with the proceeds going to support local domestic violence organizations. Phones can be dropped off at any Verizon Wireless Communications Store.
Help and information are really just a phone call away.
