Braddock Father Accused Of Murdering Daughter Nyia Page Found After Weekend Amber Alert POSTED: 9:09 am EST February 8, 2007 UPDATED: 11:42 am EST February 8, 2007 PITTSBURGH -- The father of a toddler who died of exposure purposely took the girl outside and left her in subfreezing temperatures after knocking her unconscious because he was angry, police said. On Saturday morning, 23-month-old Nyia Page was reported missing around 7:30 a.m. Now the victim's 23-year-old father is charged in the toddler's death. William Page told police he woke up early Saturday and found the girl awake and playing near a mirror in the hallway. He said he got mad when the girl would not go back to bed so he hit her so hard she hit her head and was unconscious, according to a criminal complaint. Page then took the girl outside wrapped in a blanket and left her, but said she was still breathing, police said. The girl's body was found Sunday in a different location than where Page told police he left her. Police said child-sized footprints in the snow suggest the girl got up and wandered around before she died. The toddler was barefoot and wearing only a sweater and a diaper when she disappeared. The site where she was found was about a 10-minute walk from her home, a trek that would have included climbing 17 snowy steps up to a wooded knoll, police said. Police, volunteers, emergency crews and bloodhounds searched in 20-degree temperatures throughout the day Saturday. The toddler's body was found shortly after 3 p.m. Sunday in a wooded area of Rankin. Investigators gave polygraph exams to three men who were at the house Saturday -- including Page, the girl's grandfather and a boyfriend of her grandmother. As a result of information gathered, Page was charged Sunday with sexually abusing another child. Page was arraigned early Thursday morning in connection with his daughter’s death. He is charged with criminal homicide, kidnapping, giving false reports to law enforcement and simple assault. A hearing for Page is scheduled for Feb. 14. http://www.wpxi.com/news/10961719/detail.html

Feb 8, 4:47 PM EST Father charged in child's exposure death By RAMESH SANTANAM Associated Press Writer PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A man angry his toddler daughter wouldn't go to bed knocked her unconscious and left her to die outside in single-digit temperatures, police said. The frozen body of Nyia Miangel Page, who was about to turn 2, was found Sunday at an abandoned playground about a 10-minute walk from the family's home. Tiny footprints in the snow suggest she had gotten up and wandered around before she died, police said. Her father, William Lorenzo Page, 23, of Braddock, was arrested Wednesday on charges of criminal homicide, kidnapping, false reports and simple assault. He has been in custody since Sunday, when he was charged with sexually abusing another child shortly before Nyia died. Page, who did not have an attorney at his arraignment Thursday morning, was jailed without bond. Page told police he woke up early Saturday and found the girl awake and playing near a mirror in the hallway, according to a criminal complaint filed Wednesday night. He said he got mad when the girl wouldn't go back to bed so he hit her so hard she hit her head and was unconscious, the complaint said. Police said Page told them he took the girl outside wrapped in a blanket and left her, still breathing, beside railroad tracks near a bridge. Police said a T-shirt, a pair of women's underwear and a Pittsburgh Steelers "Terrible Towel," all found in Page's basement, appeared to have been stained with dried blood. An autopsy determined Nyia died of hypothermia, but the Allegheny County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide because investigators said it was unreasonable to assume the child had made it alone to the playground, which is on a wooded knoll. The toddler would have had to have climbed 17 snowy steps to get there. Authorities could only guess how long Nyia, wearing only a sweater and a diaper, could have survived in temperatures that hovered around 2 degrees Saturday morning. "Given her size, she would have been rendered incapacitated very quickly," Allegheny County Medical Examiner Dr. Karl E. Williams said Thursday. "She'd been out so long, when we found her she was frozen." A witness saw Page enter his house Saturday morning from the direction where his daughter was found, police said. He was back out on the street about an hour later, saying he was looking for the girl and telling the witness, "Somebody took my daughter," according to a criminal complaint. Nyia's mother told police she last saw the girl after Nyia tried to crawl into bed with her parents about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. The mother told police she put the youngster back into her own bed in an upstairs room. Police, emergency crews and bloodhounds searched in 20-degree temperatures for most of two days before finding the little girl's body. The sexual abuse charge against Page came as police investigated Nyia's disappearance. Police said another child in the house told investigators that sometime overnight Friday, Page entered a bedroom, covered the child's mouth with one hand and touched the child's genitals with the other. The child said Page then left the room, followed by Nyia, police said. http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/T/TODDLER_DEATH?SITE=MOSTP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

Father Of Dead Toddler Faces Sexual Abuse Charges On Top Of Homicide Charge February 9, 2007 10:11 a.m. EST Pittsburgh, PA (AHN) - The father of a toddler found dead in the snow now faces sexual abuse charges on top of criminal homicide, kidnapping, false reports and simple assault charges. William Lorenzo Page, 23, of Braddock, Pa., who was arrested Wednesday, had been in custody since Sunday, charged with sexual abuse of another child. Page's 23-month-old daughter Nyia Miangel Page, was found dead in the snow at playground 10-minutes from her home. She was found frozen, wearing only a sweater, in temperatures that hovered around 20 degrees during the two-days authorities searched for her. A disposable diaper was found on railroad tracks nearby and a blanket was found near her body, according to AP reports Friday. Page had initially told the police that he discovered his daughter missing. Then he changed his story and admitted that he had become angry with Nyia when she got up from bed and began playing. He struck her in the head, rendering her unconscious, then he carried her out into the snow and left her, according to AP reports. Another child told authorities that Pace had touched them sexually Friday night and that when Page left the room that Nyia followed him, the AP reported that police said. In ruling her death a homicide Allegheny County medical examiner Dr. Karl E. Williams had said he "feels it is unlikely she got there under her own power," the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported. http://www.allheadlinenews.com/articles/7006413028
