SUMMARY: The AMBER Alert Highway Network is a new initiative being launched by QUALCOMM, Inc. and NCMEC with the support of ATA. This new initiative will alert truck drivers within targeted geographic regions through wireless on-board technology when an AMBER Alert is issued. Alerts will contain details of the crime and information that may help lead to the safer return of abducted children. In 2003, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., QUALCOMM and NCMEC launched RoadWatch, the country's first private trucking network that alerts drivers about endangered missing children, whose cases might not meet the criteria for AMBER Alert activation.
Speakers will include:
-- Assistant Attorney General Regina B. Schofield
-- U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.), co-chair, Senate Caucus on Missing, Exploited and Runaway Children
-- QUALCOMM Wireless Business Solutions: Norm Ellis, vice president and general manager, Transportation & Logistics
-- National Center for Missing & Exploited Children: Ernie Allen, president and CEO
-- American Trucking Associations: Bill Graves, president and CEO
-- Wal-Mart, Inc.: Tim Yatsko, senior vice president, Transportation
-- Danny Ewell, professional truck driver, and member, America's Road Team (http://www.truckline.com/publicaffairs/imageprograms/art/)
-- Cpl. Wayne Sheppard, supervisor, Criminal Investigative Unit and Missing Persons Unit, Pennsylvania AMBER Alert Coordinator
DIRECTIONS: From I-395 North, take the C Street SW Exit to "US Capitol." Continue on C Street SE. Turn right on First Street SE. The American Trucking Associations Capitol Hill office is located 3 blocks south of the Capitol Hill Metro Station (on the Blue and Orange Lines).
By distributing AMBER Alerts to professional truck drivers via on-board communications solutions, the AMBER Alert Highway Network enables participating transportation companies and their drivers to support law-enforcement efforts to help recover abducted children.
