Clay Co. Not Enforcing Halloween Sex Offender Law
ACLU Files Lawsuit On Behalf Of Sex Offenders

LIBERTY, Mo. -- On Halloween night the state of Missouri will be enforcing its sex offender law requiring registered sex offenders to stay home with their porch lights off and a sign on the door saying they will not be giving out candy.
But there is a challenge to the law.
The ACLU has filed a lawsuit on behalf of four sex offenders saying the law violates their civil rights. Because of the lawsuit, the Clay County Sheriff's Department has decided not to check on sex offenders on Halloween to make sure they are at home and obeying the law.
"It's a stupid move," said parent Vanessa Alvarato. "I think they should rethink the move and know it's unsafe. Why should they get a second chance? They're sex offenders for a good reason."
KCTV5 tried to contact the Clay County Sheriff's Office for a better explanation but had not received a response.
