Lake City Police kicked off a program called the Sexual Offender Accountability Program, or S.O.A.P, in which an officer will be assigned one sex offender or predator to keep tabs on. They'll make sure offenders keep their addresses updated, and if they find someone has moved without notice or is lying about where they live, the police department has the right to file charges with the State Attorney's office.

"We're hoping to let the public know that we are keeping an eye on these individuals and like I said earlier, we want them to do well, but we're there to make sure they do," says Lake City Police Captain Gary Laxton.

Within the first couple of hours of the new program, police say they've found one sex offender had moved without telling the proper authorities. They hope as the program moves further along, that the offenders will work with the officers to make sure there are no problems.
